Gadget of the Month: Chumby
Let me introduce you to possibly the most clever new piece of technology for 2008. It is called “Chumby”, a softball-size computer with stereo speakers, a 3.5″ touch screen LCD display and wireless Ethernet connectivity. It also has 2 USB ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack for connecting to an iPod or other computer devices.
“What can I do with Chumby?” you ask. Well, let me tell you a few things. It can wake you up in the morning like an alarm clock and then give you the latest news or last night’s final sports scores. Next it can show you today’s weather forecast, if you’d like. It can also play music from a number of Internet radio stations or display video from YouTube or pictures from Flickr or another widget.
There is very little you cannot do with Chumby. You can use it as a video and audio player for your IPod and use it to display your e-mail or calendar from Google Gmail, to list a few more features. There are over 600 widgets available already, and, with such a large community of widget developers, I fully expect over 1,000 available in next few months. You can even make your own widget if there isn’t one out there doing what you have in mind. If you would like more information or would like to take a look at the widgets currently available, just head on over to www.chumby.com. Be careful though, you might be so captivated by Chumby that you order one too!
